Iya is a mother of four children, her last two being twins. She has always loved children.
Iya graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Education from Montgomery College in 2007. She owned and operated a daycare in Maryland and Georgia from 2000 - 2010. During her time as a daycare provider, she assisted a few of the mothers with their births. She later heard the term Doula and understood her purpose. Iya became a doula in 2009 through Childbirth International and is an apprenticing midwife under her elder midwife in Atlanta, Ga. Iya started Ubuntu Wellness Academy in 2011 with a focus on creating more awareness among black families on the benefits of having a doula and childbirth education. To date, Iya has assisted in close to fifty births and delivered five babies. In 2014 Iya began her spiritual studies as an aborisa in the African Traditional Religion of the Yoruba people called Ifa Isese. In 2016, Iya received her Batchelor degree in Metaphysical Science and became an ordained minister. In 2018 she was traditionally initiated as a priestess of Yemoja. To date, Iya has trained close to sixty women. |
